A Doula is a great tool for fathers. Studies show that when a Doula is present at the birth, the father feels more involved. Many men assume that they will be pushed aside if their partner has a Doula, but even the most skeptical of dads have reported that having a Doula helped them as much as it helped their partner!
My job is to make your birth the best it can be. Yes, your birth, it's your baby and its your birth too! Many men hate to see thier partners in pain... it is the innermost chivalrey that attracts women to men in the first place. My job is to help you, enable you, to help your partner through her labor. You are just as involved in this labor as she is! You were there at conception, you will be there for the growing up of the child - you are very much involved in the labor. Many men today are deciding that they are going to be more involved in the birth of thier child. I am here to help you, dads, to do just that. To be more involved in your partner's labor and delivery!
I am just some woman there... sure, I understand labor much better than a man, I have all the right parts and all the right knowledge... but I am not her partner. I did not conceive this baby - you did. And because of that, she needs your support more than she needs mine. I'm just a perk!
Now, many couples decide not to have the father present at the birth. I support this desicion 100% too! I have always said, what is right for one is not right for another. Each birth is so different and the dinamics are so different, that every single birth is a unique happening. If you decide not to be there, that is your descision and I fully support it!
